HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY, EVERLY! + 5 Wishes for You

I can't believe my Little One is 1-year old TODAY! (Actually, she's not little. Weighing in at 9 lbs, 2 oz at birth!). The sleepless nights might've been never ending, but the year flew by in a blink.

Seeing the world through Everly's eyes has made me realize how differently she perceive things and how easily she can be influenced. It was hard to pick 5 wishes. There's so many things I wish for her, but these are the ultimate in my mind. It’s my hope that these wishes lay the foundation for Everly to grow into an independent, happy, and healthy adult.

1. BE KIND

It's important for Zac and I to raise a good human being. Humans that grow up to help and change the world. I believe it starts with the values instilled in your child very early on. I always remind Everly to say please and thank you, and try to teach her to not expect things, but rather to earn them. She may not say please or thank you just yet, but I know she understands what I'm teaching her.

2. FAMILY IS FOREVER

I want Everly to never forget her roots and culture. My husband is Hispanic, and I am Vietnamese. We want her to learn our languages (Vietnamese, French & Spanish) and to hopefully read and write it one day. We want to take her to Vietnam. We want her to appreciate the beautiful culture, food, and traditions. Even though I don't speak Vietnamese 100% of the time and are very much American, I want her to recognize and respect where her parents and grandparents are from and who they are.

It's important to stay connected with family to uphold the traditions that would otherwise diminish and be obsolete one day.

FAMILY IS FIRST. No matter where she go in life or what she will do, she must never forget us, (possible) future siblings, life at home, and the way she grew up. I will do everything to keep her close to me forever in life.

3. SEE THE WORLD

I want Everly to travel and see the world! I'm not talking just visiting beautiful places and vacationing, but to learn about different cultures and ways of life, to know and understand how others in the world live, what traditions they practice, what they eat... etc. It will build an appreciation for life like no other activity or experience.

I want Everly to see the unknown, instead of reading or hearing about it.

4. DREAM BIG

You have goals which inspires you to live. And if you're going to dream why not make it big? If you achieve it you will be living your best life! Dreaming involves holding tight to a vision of a better life, one of success and happiness. While getting there might be difficult, having to deal with setbacks and failures along the way, it’s well worth it.

Anyone who’s achieved a big goal knows how true that is.

5. BE HAPPY!

In the end, all I really wish for Everly is happiness. Not material things and money happiness, but happiness that works like magic to make us feel good, smile and laugh no matter what situations we are faced with.

When you're happy, everything else seems to fall into place.

Everly ~

You might not be able to blow out the only candle on your cake. But as if it were the light of a million candles, your love brightens up our lives in a way that no one can explain. You are so little right now but you have brought unimaginably large amounts of happiness in our lives.
Happy 1st birthday. No amount of love can express how much we love you.
