MOTHERHOOD: Nothing Sour About Milkbarn!

Products were sent to me for review. All opinions are my own.

"There’s a place where lions roam freely. Birds sing beautifully in the canopy of trees where giraffes graze. And butterflies always seem to land gently on your fingertip. That place is your child’s imagination and its where we find the inspiration for Milkbarn kids.
Because we believe children’s products should be as fresh and imaginative as the world they live in. Well- designed and well-made, not manufactured and mass marketed.
Care. Curiosity. Creativity. And love.
All the things we want to pass on to our children. That’s what we bring to each and every Milkbarn treasure." - Milkbarn Website

Babies spend much of their time sleeping, therefore they get a lot of exposure to baby blankets. In fact, even when they aren’t sleeping in their cribs, babies are often wrapped or swaddled in blankets. With something that comes in close contact to your baby’s delicate skin, organic baby blankets offers the safest option to ward off sensitivity to fabrics.

With regular non-organic blankets the cotton companies process the crop with a vast array of chemical agents, then additional chemicals are used to bleach and dye the fabrics. These synthetic fibers can be rough on sensitive skin and emit gases that can harm young systems. Organically grown cotton, however, is not treated with chemical fertilizers and pesticides. In order for the crop to be deemed as certified organic the fields must be certified to be chemical-free for at least 3 years prior to planting. This eliminates harmful chemicals in the crop. The harvested cotton is then processed without the use of any harsh or toxic substances.

When discussing organic muslin blankets there is always one company that stands out strongly in my mind: Milkbarn. I have seen a significant increase in popularity when it comes to muslin blankets and I think parents are truly starting to understand how beneficial they can be. Being a a first time Mom, Zac and I have a large variety of blankets because of the cute designs and prints; not because of how they would withstand the projectile vomit stains. After many weeks of going through our collection and putting it to the test with Everly, I must say Milkbarn's organic muslin swaddles are on top of our list.

Milkbarn is made from 100% certified GOTS organic cotton; it is a super soft fabric that stretches making it the ideal swaddling blanket. The natural material is free of dyes and pesticides so it’s perfect against baby’s sensitive skin. Milkbarn aims to provide practical but stunning products that are also sophisticated in style. The patterns are eye catching and definitely recommended to Moms who love a little fashion in their swaddle. In addition to style, the luxurious and breathable fabric allows both light and air to pass through, ensuring a comfortable temperature for baby in even the warmest weather.  No longer will you be up half the night (checking on baby) making sure they aren’t too hot. While they are gentle blankets, they’re also very durable and will withstand the washer. We know how messy babies are so you know you’ll be washing these frequently! At a generous 47" x 47", they are the perfect size to grow with baby for many years!  They can also be hung on the wall as a tapestry or used as a scarf or sarong when your kids are big!

So whether you’re shopping for your own baby or for a shower gift for an expecting mom, Milkbarn's Organic Muslin Swaddle Blankets are great for multiple uses without exposing them to harmful or dangerous toxins. Use them in the nursery, around the house, or take along on the go to keep your baby snuggly warm. There are so many ways you could utilize this blanket, it really is an all in one type deal!

Parents are also gravitating towards organic baby clothing to limit the exposure that their little ones get to toxic chemicals that are used in the making of everyday fabrics. Non-organic baby clothing is often made from synthetic fibers manufactured with petrochemicals, acrylic (polycrylonitriles), PVC, and esters that are linked to a variety of health problems. The trend of organic baby clothes is part of a larger trend towards organic clothing as more people become aware of the significant effects that the textile industry has on our environment. Today nearly 20% of all water pollution occurs through the making of non-organic clothing. Organic baby clothing brands are leading the way to a new era of clean starts and healthier babies.

Everly has been growing like a weed lately! The little porker will turn 2 months old in 4 days and she's wearing clothes for 3 months. I get a little teary-eyed putting all of her newborn clothes into a keepsake box.
Milkbarn believes in offering baby and toddler clothing that has the perfect balance of style and sustainability. They also realize that when it comes to apparel, style is important. To ensure parents never have to choose between safety and style, Milkbarn produces clothing, like the muslin swaddles, made from only G.O.T.S certified organic materials.

The first thing I noticed about the pajamas is the adorable design. It is unique, but not too over the top. As I do with all clothing, I immediately felt the material. They were amazingly soft, yet not too thick or too thin. This makes them ideal for wearing during the winter months and during the summer when we have the  A/C running. The exceptional quality of the material and the construction is also apparent. For right now, the pajamas are a tad roomy (size is 6 months - even though it looks like it fits her perfectly - the little porker), but she seemed very comfortable in the pajamas; the material did not irritate her skin which is important. I look forward to picking up some of the other cute styles - especially the headbands!
