The Saving Asian Review: Big Bear - Places to Eat

Mr. Saving and I have returned back home from our Big Bear Trip ... and we're sad! :(
But I'm happy to share with you what we did on our trip and hope you guys will visit these places on your next Big Bear Trip.

Places to Eat

Breakfast

Big Bear Donuts
108 W Big Bear, Big Bear City, CA 92314

Zac and I came to this place twice during our getaway :) We stumbled upon this place while driving down Big Bear Blvd. I was randomly craving donuts at 1pm. A donut shop still open past 1pm? Yep!

I love it when you go to a place and you are treated just like family. That's how the staff treated us.

I fell in LOVE (at first bite) with the Cinnamon Roll, Strawberry & Creme, Bear Claw and Sunkist Donuts. Donuts range from $1.00 - $2.49.
Super crispy on the outside, moist and soft on the inside. Slightly bigger than your average donut! Krispy Kreme has no comparison!

After getting our donuts in the afternoon, we returned at 7 am the next day to try the Biscuits & Gravy (served until 11am). And oh me gee, it is to DIE FOR! It has a hint of spice to it which made it even more tastier. Reasonably priced at $5.49 for a full order, which is enough to feed 2 people. Zac and I ate it so fast... I forgot to take a picture of it :(

Lunch/Dinner

Big Bear Mountain Brewery
40260 Big Bear Blvd, Big Bear Lake, CA 92315

If you like to drink, or drink socially (like me), come here and get the Beer Flight! You get 6 - 5 oz glasses (@ $10) to try! A few were very good, others I didn't care much for. I got pretty buzzed after sharing one with Zac :x Yeah, I'm a lightweight.

We ended up purchasing a 64 oz Growler to take with us to the hotel to enjoy later :)
Our favorite is the Beaver CPC - which is another IPA version.

As for the food, the only item we ever get is the Spinach & Artichoke Dip. The cheapest and most reasonably priced food item on the item; it was a 'Miss' during this trip though :/ It did not taste as fresh. Not the cheapest place to come for food - but definitely come for the beer.

Service is a hit; depending on if they're busy or not.

Pong's Oriental Delight
42104 Big Bear Blvd, Big Bear Lake, CA 92315

Zac was craving Curry so we decided to go to Pong's Oriental Delight at 5 pm.
After reading the Yelp reviews, I was alittle scared, but Zac insisted on trying the Curry Chicken... and I'm glad we did.

The decor is extremely outdated; it was crying with Easter decor.

We ordered the Curry Chicken ($10.99) and Garlic Beef ($10.99) to go. Both entrees came with Steamed or Fried Rice, and your choice of Miso or Wonton Soup or Salad.

The Saving Asian Tip:
Be sure to come during lunch time because these entrees are priced at $7.99 each.

The Curry Chicken had so much Yellow Curry favor, which is what we wanted! So creamy, and filling - and not TOO thick like most curry sauces. The Garlic Beef was very good as well. The garlic was at the bottom of our container, which we didn't discover until the end.

What I loved most is Pong, the ower, made our food; she was the only one in the kitchen. Yes, the 'To-Go'/Waiting Room looked into the kitchen. She took her time making our food and I knew it was cooked fresh. She takes pride in her food - so expect to wait a few extra minutes.

The Saving Asian Tip:
If on vacation, take your food to go! - esp if the restaurant decor scares you. If you're paying to stay at the hotel... spend as much as time there as possible :) PLUS, you always get MORE food when taking to go.

Pong's also serves sushi priced at $12.99 a roll! $14.99 - $16.99 for the more unique ones.
Pong's is 1 of 2 Asian Cuisines in Big Bear, so definitely stop here :) Never judge a book by its' cover.

The Saving Asian Tip:
When Mr. Saving and I go on vacation, we always bring our own food - esp if our hotel has a kitchen. It is a GREAT way to save money. If not food, then lots of snacks and drinks! :)

But sometimes, we just want to eat out because... hey, we're on vacation! We actually ended up eating at Dominio's at 10pm! Why? Because they had a deal for 50% off ANY pizza. Yep, it was a good "almost-midnight" snack (for only $5) :)
